About us

When we speak of the Gorbeia Tourist Destination, we refer to the Gorbeia Natural Park and the towns around it. Although territorially it is distributed in the lands of Álava and Bizkaia, Gorbeia is one and it is also unique.

Since 2010, the Gorbeialde Rural Development Association (for the Bizkaia part) and the Gorbeialdea Squad (for the Alava region) have been working together to promote tourism throughout the Gorbeia area, in a unique example in Euskadi of collaboration between institutions from different territories.

If we look at the map, the Gorbeia Tourist Destination is made up of several municipalities in both regions:

Arratia-Nerbioi region (Bizkaia): ARAKALDO, ARANTZAZU, ARTEA, AREATZA, BEDIA, GALDAKAO, OTXANDIO, OROZKO, UBIDE, ZEANURI.

Comarca or Cuadrilla de Gorbeialdea_Estribaciones del Gorbeia (Álava): ARAMAIO, ARRATZUA-UBARRUNDIA, LEGUTIO, URKABUSTAIZ, ZIGOITIA and ZUIA.

Asociación de Desarrollo Rural Gorbeialde (Bizkaia)

The Gorbeialde Rural Development Association is made up of town councils and other rural associations in the Arratia-Nerbioi area.

Its objective is to contribute to the improvement of living conditions and provision of services to the rural population, trying to serve as a channel for participation and collaboration between all sectors involved in rural development and the local administration of the region and in the preparation and execution of Rural Development Programs.

The Crews constitute a peculiar system of territorial organization, exclusive to the Alavés Historical Territory. They are provincial territorial entities made up of the municipalities, which promote and manage the interests of each region with a view to its organization and provision of resources.

There are currently 7 Crews in Álava: Añana, Ayala, Campezo-Montaña Alavesa, Laguardia-Rioja Alavesa, Salvatierra, Vitoria-Gasteiz and Gorbeialdea (formerly Zuia).

This entity is aimed at ensuring the well-being and development of the populations that compose it in order to optimize the resources used and provide a common service to the municipalities that comprise it and their population.

One step away from Gorbeia

Euskadi

Euskadi is also the sum of its three territories and the two million people who inhabit them: Bizkaia, Gipuzkoa and Álava, with their nuances, their differences, their places and personalities.

If Bizkaia is the industrial sister, governed by the exemplary Bilbao, Gipuzkoa is revealed as a more rustic territory, in which the aristocratic and stately side of San Sebastián stands out. Álava, on the other hand, is a land characterized by its barely populated areas and a capital, Vitoria, which is an example of good living.

Gorbeia is in the heart of Euskadi, at the gates of Bilbao and Vitoria-Gasteiz.

From Gorbeia you can also visit other corners of the Basque Country such as the coasts of Bizkaia and Gipuzkoa, with charming places such as Mundaka, San Juan de Gaztelugatxe, Getaria or Zarautz.

Bilbao

The new Bilbao is an ideal place to spend a day around some of its most emblematic elements such as the Euskalduna Palace, La Alhondiga , the Isozaki Towers, the Maritime Museum , the Museum of Fine Arts or the Arriaga Theater.

Right here the domains of Casco Viejo start with its new square, the seven streets, the Cathedral of Santiago and the Mercado de la Ribera; a charming area where you can enjoy some of the best pintxos (tapas) bars and shop.

We cannot forget titanium miracle; the Guggenheim Museum ; much more than an exhibition hall. It is the flagship of a modern, versatile, new Bilbao open to the world.

Vitoria - Gasteiz

The capital of Euskadi is marked by a medieval past whose traces are most visible in its old part. Located at the top of a hill, it is full of alleys, cantons and squares.

In it, the old cathedral stands out , which has inspired the English novelist Ken Follet. This monument has been undergoing rehabilitation work for more than a decade, but at no time has it closed its doors to the public.

At the foot of the Medieval Quarter is the first expansion of the city, which contains the squares of the Virgen Blanca and de España, and the pedestrian streets of Eduardo Dato and Postas.

It was the European green capital, an award that has been achieved, among other reasons, for the green ring of parks and promenades that surrounds the city of Vitoria and its delicate urban landscapes such as La Florida or the Prado.

Also known as "la bella Easo" or "pearl of the Cantabrian Sea", Donostia-San Sebastián is a beautiful and elegant city , of French influence, which was the summer resort of the European aristocracy until the beginning of the 20th century.

Located just 23 km from the French border, in this beautiful city is one of the most famous urban beaches, La Concha, with a promenade made in detail.

Do not miss its old part where the traveler can enter its hotel establishments, the cradle of the new avant-garde gastronomy, nor its immense architectural wealth: the neo-Gothic cathedral of Buen Pastor; "The comb of the winds" by Eduardo Chillida; dream palaces like the Miramar or the Kursaal; headquarters of the Zinemaldia, the Donostia-San Sebastián Film Festival, one of the epicenters of its extensive cultural activity that has earned it the "European Cultural Capital 2016".

Rioja Alavesa

The wines of Denomination of Origin Rioja Alavesa have given worldwide fame to this region. The excellence of the grape is the starting point of the unique personality of its wines, widely recognized internationally and a reference of high quality.

The extensive vineyards of Rioja Álavesa coexist in harmony with the medieval villas and the avant-garde architecture of dozens of wineries designed by famous architects of the stature of Frank Gehry, the author of the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao, as is the case of the Marqués de Riscal in the town of Elciego. And it is not the only one. A sight to behold is also Ysios en Laguardia, designed by Santiago Calatrava.

Visiting or enjoying a typical lunch in a winery, tasting its wines and discovering an unusual landscape at the foot of the majestic Sierra de Cantabria, is emerging as a unique plan.
